Get Past This

Thursday 13th April 2017
Loves Cafe - Weston Super Mare

“If You Can Get Past This, You Can Do Anything”...These are the words of a song Johnny Anderson wrote, to help cope with his Mum, Sue’s, second battle with breast cancer.
REACH are a new band who are creating their own furrow in the music world.  The Band went in to the Studio in 2016, and one of their first recordings was a track titled, ‘Get Past This’. It quickly became a fan’s favourite with its melodic hook, and catchy chorus. However, it was hiding an underlying message, that until the last few weeks, had been kept close to writer and singer, Johnny Anderson.
Johnny’s Mum, Sue Anderson, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, when Johnny was just 16. After coming through that first battle, unfortunately, Sue received more bad news at the end of 2014, as the cancer had returned. Johnny, together with his two brothers have lived a large part of their lives with cancer in the immediate family, and it is this experience and journey, that led Johnny to processing it, in the way he knows best, through his music. ‘Get Past This’ holds a powerful message of hope and determination for all those affected by cancer, to find your own way to overcome and be positive about the future.
The Band decided to make their initial recording available via digital download, earlier this year, and it was only then, that Johnny opened up about the song, and the importance of how it helps him deal with Sue’s situation.
Johnny had created this way of channeling his feelings, and with such an optimistic outlook, so the Band decided they wanted to do something positive with the song. As this was such a unique and powerful way to raise awareness, they contacted the Breast Cancer Now (BCN) charity, to ask if it would be o.k. to use the song to highlight how it affects so many family and close friends, and to raise funds. The Andersons have been regular fund-raisers for the charity since 2004, when known as Breakthrough.
Lorna Thomas, Community Engagement Office at BCN, recognised the potential of such a unique approach and has given full support to initiate the ‘Get Past This’ Campaign, and it will be showcased across the BCN media channels.
The band go in to the studio at the end of the month to record a special acoustic version of Get Past This, and huge thanks to 13 Studio Productions for supporting the campaign. The new recording, and the original, will be available for download for those that kindly donate to the campaign. It will be launched at an intimate acoustic gig being held in the band's hometown of Weston-super-Mare, at Loves Cafe, recently awarded a best venue award. Loves owner Anna is gladly supporting the event where guests will receive one of Anna's top dishes and cocktails, alongside a live acoustic set from REACH.
However, that's just the start of the 'Get Past This' campaign and we would appreciate all your help and support to raise awareness of the campaign, so please share with your friends and across your social media networks.

2016 A Massive Thank-You

Well what can we say, 2016 was a year of high's with amazing results throughout the year, but also of great sadness at the loss of our group founder and chair Christine Piper.

Our group and supporters took part in or organised many events throughout the year including

London Marathon
Tough Mudder
Ladies Night
Weston Pride
Highbridge & Burnham Carnival
Shop 4 a Cure 4 Christmas
Ball Britannia

We also would like to Thanks CJ Hole for their support throughout 2016 with their various fundraising initiatives including Ed Creswick & his son Tom doing a skydive they managed to raise over £1000 for our charity.

Not forgetting all of those people who have made any kind of donation in our many collection tins.

We are pleased to announce that during 2016 we managed to raise an incredible £36,000  bringing the total that the group has raised for Breast Cancer NOW to an amazing £405,000 since it was founded in 1997, not forgetting that in addition to this £20,000 was raised for each of the 4 breast cancer units in Bath, Yeovil, Weston and Taunton meaning we have now raised £485,000 for breast cancer charities.
