Moonwalk 2013 Completed

Tired but proud and happy!

Well done Somerset group members Holly and Kat for completing the half marathon moonwalk in three hours and raising over £400 for Breakthrough!

The London Moonwalk is an annual Walk the Walk event where around 15,000 intrepid participants powerwalk around the capital in their brassieres, starting at midnight from the iconic Battersea Power Station landmark.

A puffed out Holly said  "The rain came down but that didn't deter us because we were enjoying every minute of every step, so much so that now we want to do the full marathon distance next year! We'd like to thank everyone who sponsored and supported us, including Fun City Brean and Parkin Workwear."

We'll keep you updated with their plans for the 2014 Moonwalk, but for now here's the the main walk the walk page here

Brean Golf Club - Captains Charity Golf Day Raises £1,500

Many thanks to all the participants and organisers who raised £1,500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer!

Although breezy, it stayed mainly dry for the fifteen teams who took part in the club's annual golf day, which included a carvery in the Tavern and a charity auction.

Congratulations to the quartet of Steve Bateman, Alec Bateman, Martyn Cahill and Paul McLanaghan, who won by virtue of a better back nine after carding 88 points.

Here's a pic and article courtesy of Burnham-on-Sea.com

All of us at the Somerset group wish Brean Golf Club all the best for the rest of the year - stayed tuned for information on the other events the club are holding in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the Ladies Captains Charity of the Year!

Cinderella Ball

Prince Charming awaits....

When:               Saturday 7th December 2013
Where:             Batch Country House, Lympsham, W-s-M
Time:                 7.00 pm til 12.30 am

Dress code:      Black tie/evening wear (or in character!)

Following the success of last year’s ball, Hooray for Hollywood, we are delighted to announce we’re back at the Batch, but this year it is by fairytale royal appointment.

In the hope of meeting his perfect princess, Prince Charming has commanded his officials to invite all ladies of the land to attend our grand dinner and dance ball.

But fear not if your fairytale romance has already been told, for in the spirit of true love and romance, his Highness has extended the invitation to all ladies and gentlemen of the kingdom.

So please join us as we summon our fairy godmothers, discard our tatty rags and sparkle the night away.

Many of our supporters love an opportunity to party in character, so we’re hoping to see plenty of swish royal bachelors and fabulous ball gowns (and maybe even a wicked stepmother or ugly stepsister or two!).

As well as a fabulous three course meal, we have the brilliant RiverBrew band again, along with a disco, charity auction, professional photographer and much much more...

Places are always limited, so please consider booking early if you fancy joining us for an evening of celebration and fun - perfect for a work’s Christmas party!

Tickets are £40 per person, with all proceeds going to Breakthrough, to help work towards a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

Although booking forms are not yet available, please contact us if you would like to book tickets and we will reserve them for you.

To reserve your tickets, please contact:
Mrs Christine Piper via email on christinepiper@sky.com or by phone 01278 793870

We’ll post details of this year’s menu choices once they are available, but special dietary requirements can usually be catered for.

Kat and Holly at our 2012 Ball

When:              11th May 2013

Somerset group members Holly and Kat will be joining thousands of other fundraisers for the London Moonwalk this year.

The London Moonwalk is an annual Walk the Walk event where intrepid participants powerwalk a half marathon around the capital in their brassieres, starting at midnight.

The girls would love to raise as much as possible, so if you can spare some money, no matter how small, it will help spur them on as they strut (trudge) their way around the 13+ mile course.

The girls' walk the walk page is here, with the main walk the walk page here

No doubt we'll be posting pics from the event and updating you on how they got on.

Life After Breast Cancer

Wendy, Christine and Susie

Somerset group members Christine Piper and Susie Loosley, along with friend and supporter Wendy Cox, spent an afternoon with Taunton based photographer Andrea Duncan as part of her project to capture beautiful images of breast cancer survivors.

Andrea's vision is to photograph women of all ages who have overcome the disease, to create meaningful photographs that portray their personality, femininity and love for life.

She hopes the pictures will be something for the women to treasure but that the project will also inspire other women about life before, during, and after breast cancer.

Our ladies certainly found the experience fun, light-hearted and very rewarding, with group chair Christine expressing her thanks. "We are very grateful to Andrea for the opportunity to be a part of the wonderful photos, and we all hope to meet up again soon".

Andrea is looking for other women who may be interested, so if you would like to know more please do contact her to arrange a chat. The photosessions will be 'on location' rather than in a photo studio, these were taken inside the lovely Cosy Club in Taunton, but Somerset has many great locations outside as long as the weather is kind!
